My position sits within a specialised team of multiple disciplines with various reporting lines, including to the Board of Directors and Executive and has Group wide visibility. The role varies in scope and responsibility and includes internal and external secondments where a business need is identified.
Great team to be in to get solid cross company exposure, not just to all functions of the business and operation but also to all levels of organisational hierarchy – we deal with the CEO to the baggage handler. You get both lateral and linear experience. You also have the fortunate ability to work with such professional and skilled people.
Where did your journey start?
I began with going to the Employment Authority with the Company Barrister – dispute with pilots.
Where’s your journey taken you so far within Air New Zealand?
I have worked and experienced most areas here including Corporate, HR, Legal, External litigation, Cargo, Govt Affairs, Airports, Tech Ops as well as a number of transition projects and support of all offshore regions.
Where do you hope your journey will take you?
The idea is to get as broad an understanding of how a complex and multi-faceted organisation operates in order to leverage that understanding to the next step, whether internal or external. I see the skills and experienced gained at Air NZ as an invaluable and unique background.
What Air NZ value do you feel you best represent and why?
Can Do – I think it’s important to take on and seek out any new work to get the most out of working for such a diverse company.
What’s the best story you’ve been able to tell after a day at work?
I really enjoy working on some of the commercial deals, which enable us to keep people employed, and keep invaluable skill sets in NZ. That is pretty satisfying.
