I’m a Strategy Manager in the Strategy team but I’m currently seconded as the Manager Commercial Performance Group Supply Chain.
In the Strategy team, I have worked on a variety of projects right across our business from Airports, Technical Operations, Growth Businesses and partner with different departments of Air New Zealand to develop strategic plans and analysing investment decisions. This is how I came to be seconded into Group Supply Chain as I am currently working with that team to develop a strategic plan.
I enjoy the challenge and variety I get by working in the Strategy team. There are lots of opportunities to develop business acumen and so many interesting things happening in the aviation industry around the world and working in a global business means no day is ever the same.
Where did your journey start?
I studied Accounting and Law at Otago University before joining PwC in a graduate role. While I was at PwC I completed my CA and Law Professionals and worked in both Tax and Corporate Finance. I joined Air New Zealand three years ago from Auckland International Airport where I was a Corporate Planning and Strategy Analyst where I worked on developing a growth strategy.
Where do you hope your journey will take you?
There is no shortage of interesting opportunities at Air New Zealand. I have just made a move to Group Supply Chain where I am learning about Air New Zealand’s diverse supply chain. This role has also provided me an opportunity to gain experience in managing a team.
What’s the best story you’ve been able to tell after a day at work?
Working in strategy often means that you can’t talk about what you did at work today. Often you have to wait until the project is implemented – there have been some exciting times since I started and working on the Virgin Australia deal is definitely a highlight. It is also pretty interesting to visit the Engineering Bases to see the aircraft.
